Pretty Serious The Pink One and Bourjois Sunny Sunday

A Pink Spotted Scrunch, according to Roald Dahl, is a venomous creature that can eat a person in one bite. I had this idea for a wildly exotic pink spotted mani during a Roald Dahl themed art lesson with a bunch of nine year olds a couple of weeks ago. OK, it turned out more like an exotic nudibranch (Ceratosoma amoena, photo credit Doug Anderson - more pictures here of the little darling) than an evil maneater, but I love it all the same.

Not too much to say about the technique, I applied one coat of Bourjois Sunny Sunday, then added the sponge gradient with Sunny Sunday and The Pink One. I reversed the gradient on one nail of each hand for a bit of extra interest. Pink dots (large) on the yellow areas of the mani and small yellow dots on the pink areas. I chose these shades because they are the densest, most pigment rich yellow and pink in my whole collection, so I knew they would work well for both gradient and dots. The Pink One has the extra advantage of a super blue shimmer, which blends wonderfully in the gradient and adds a great highlight to the big pink dots.

The icing on the cake with this mani is that just after I'd finished it, I noticed that new UK Indie brand Quirk had a nail art contest for a pink mani........... I entered a picture of this mani and won the contest! My prize is an exclusive Quirk polish - I'll be showing pictures of it as soon as it arrives.

Pretty Serious The Pink One is a tremendous pink - one of my absolute favourites. Here are my swatches of it alone  (when my nails were much longer), with contrasting (green and yellow) glitter and used in a water marble - yes, it's opaque enough to hold up to watermarbling over a dark base. I purchased my bottle of The Pink One from Sally Magpies earlier this year - I believe the colour is still current but very popular so it sells out quickly. I purchased Bourjois Sunny Sunday earlier this year from Boots - if you like yellows but hate the fact that most of them are streaky and difficult to apply then this one is well worth looking at.

Today I want to show you the last of my Pocket Money Polishes September colours. This is Brown Eyed Girl - a complex mix of brown, gold, copper and hot pink glitters with a sprinkle of holographic microglitter that holds everything together!

Brown glitter is a real favourite of mine, and so is hot pink matt glitter, so this one presses all my buttons. I considered using a light pink base for this, but Char at SoYouBeauty has already done that (and it looks fantastic), so I decided I'd go for a more autumnal look effect with a pinky brown base. I used Rescue Beauty Lounge Bruised, which is somewhere between a brown and a plum depending on the light, and added a bit of simple water marbling with Pretty Serious The Pink One to accent the pink glitters in Brown Eyed Girl. Pretty Serious The Pink One is a stunning pink - click through to my post from a few weeks ago when I wore this on it's own to see just how bright it is!

I wanted quite a heavy, glitter-bomb look for this mani, so I used two coats of Brown Eyed Girl. The glitter is perfectly suspended and applies smoothly and plentifully without any need for fishing or careful placement. The arrangement of glitter is just how it came out of the bottle. Because I'd put a lot of glitter on my nails, I used two coats of Gelous to make sure the mani is perfectly smooth and then a thick coat of Seche Vite to seal and dry.

Brown Eyed Girl (and the other colours in the September Sparkle collection - which includes the black and white glitters Angels and Forever and the pretty blue Keep The Faith) go on sale at 6pm today at Pocket Money Polishes website. I was lucky to be able to buy a preview bottle of this last week. My first Pretty Serious! I love pink; the hotter and brighter the better, so this one is right up my street! It's a searingly hot pink with a sweet blue shimmer.

Application was unbelievably easy, this is two coats plus Seche Vite. I could maybe have got away with just one coat - one coat would certainly be enough for short nails. I'm really impressed with the quality of the polish, I've yet to be disappointed by any polish from Australia; even before the Australian indies burst onto the market Ozotic and Picture Polish were among my favourite brands (and still are). Not sure what else to say - I love everything about this; here are some pictures!
